Lake Lanier - family trip.  Know before you go. - Palm Beach Moms

Lake Lanier is the pace for good old fashioned family fun.

Lake Lanier is a man made lake about an hour north of Atlanta.  It is stunning.   You can enjoy days on a boat- wake boarding and tubing, or just floating and admiring the views.

Where to stay:

You can stay through Lake Lanier Islands at the Lodge or other properties they offer.

Margaritaville (founded by local singer Jimmy Buffet) offers a fun option.  You can rent a lakeside cabin, yurt, or RV spot(you can rent an RV and have it delivered for that option FYI).  We loved the “camping” experience for a fun change.

You can rent a house with VRBO, this one looks fab!

How to spend your days:

Rent a pontoon double decker slide pontoon boat, pack a lunch and go find a place to float.  Whoever came up with the pontoon boat concept 100% had kids because it just works.  One of my favorite days ever.  We rented from Harbor Landing Marina.  Its a golf cart ride away.  You can do a half or full day.

Rent a lake boat (again from Harbor Landing Marina) and take the kids tubing, knee boarding, and wake boarding.

The rental companies also have the tubes for rent.

Paddle board, kayak, ride bikes.  Play games. Make s’mores.  Read.

Patrol the streets looking for deer.  Someone with us was walking the sidewalk and casually got to PET a deer.

Check out the waterpark.  Take some time off of the sun for lunch at Landshark.  (The nachos are 5 star.)

If you hit a rainy day or want to break it up- just 25 min away is a Sugarloaf Mills Mall with Medieval Times, Dave and Busters, a bounce place and more.

PigTales is a good family spot not too far away if you like BBQ.

What to bring:

  • A great float.  We love this one for individual
  • This one for the bragable upgrade.
  • And a good group one is a MUST.
  • Sunblock
  • Bug spray (good to have, we actually never needed it in July for reference)
  • Sunglasses
  • Hats
  • Pajamas
  • SoloStove Fire Pit
  • S’mores stuff
  • Bikes, scooters
  • There is a Target, Publix etc 15ish min away so you can always fill the gaps.
