What is the name of your organization?

Center for Family Services of Palm Beach County, Inc.

What is your mission?

Strengthening individuals and families through behavioral health services and education.

How and when did you get started?

In 1961, our founders noticed a need for mental health services in our community and created the Center, providing support to our most vulnerable population. The Center is constantly expanding its services in order to meet the ever-changing and growing needs of our community.

Who do you help?

The Center provides mental health services to individuals, children and families throughout Palm Beach County. Often clients are referred to us through community members who recognize a need such as doctors, schools, law enforcement, judges, Department of Children and Families, Children’s Services Council and other social service agencies.  91% of those we help are under the age of 54, 69% are female and 85% live below the poverty level.

Are there volunteer opportunities?

Help us fight the stigma around Mental Health!  Mental health affects millions of people in America. It’s time we start talking about it.  Have a conversation with your children and break the stigma.

Are there any specific items that people can donate?

Our signature fundraising event is the Old Bags Luncheon® where we auction new and gently used designer handbags raising vital funds to support our programs.  Support the Center by attending the event or donating a designer handbag!  We also accept wipes, diapers, toys and other items for the children and families we serve.

What else do we need to know about you?

When was the last time you turned on the TV or opened a newspaper, and didn’t hear about a school shooting or domestic violence incident, human trafficking or a suicide?  Now more than ever, our community needs mental health services and education for families to build a healthy connection.  The Center offers eight outcome driven programs including CPYC, Positive Parenting Program, Teen Positive Parenting Program, Prenatal Plus, SAFE Kids, General Counseling, Outpatient Substance Abuse Recovery and Employee Assistance Programs.  Several of our programs are free of charge.  Others are based on a sliding fee scale depending on insurance and income.  Our professional staff includes a Psychiatrist, Clinical Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, Mental Health Counselors and Psychologists.  Services are offered in English, Spanish and Creole and may be provided in your home, child’s school or at the agency.
